Over the Hill

Danzi the Perennial Arabian
Shared by Dawn Atlas

“Danzi” is 28 years young. He rides, drives and shows. He babysits other horses in the paddock and also some of his riders. He will wear any costume his riders put on him for Halloween or for costume classes at the shows. His registered name is Zordantz (which the announcers sometimes have trouble with at the shows), but he is Danzi to all who know and love him.

He came to my barn with a young lady who came to work for me. He actually belongs to Marianne Brinkman, but Stephanie Dumalski had been exercising him and Marianne let her bring him to me so that I could work with both of them. Danzi wasn’t a big problem, but I had to drill Stehanie, who had not had much formal training. She made remarkable progress and became a valued member of my staff. When Stephanie moved to Arizona, Danzi stayed with me as part of my school string.

Often at the open horse shows we are the only saddle seat exhibitors, but Danzi is the generic saddle seat horse and he has caught the fancy of almost all of the judges. He has a terrific record of wins & placings with some of my school riders. No one believes he is the age he is, especially Danzi. He does well in English pleasure classes and he excels at patterns, so his riders also do well in those classes. Danzi is what instructors call a school-master, teaching riders of all ages and levels, even driving occasionally.

Additionally, Danzi is a good horse to work around and a good companion to other horses. In other words, he’s a wonderful horse, even though he doesn’t like his girth tightened too much. He flaps his lips at us to make sure we know that we are to take it up slowly.

Everyone at our barn loves Danzi dearly and we pray that he will have many more years with us.
