Horse Shoe Studs:

Why Use Turf King Horse Shoe Studs?
Made in Sweden by Mustad, a worldwide leader in farrier and horseshoe equipment, Turf King studs offer high quality that equestrians want. Turf King studs have been crafted out of case hardened steel, reinforced with a tungsten carbide tip, welded in place. This tip helps extend the life of the stud as it receives the most impact. Turf King studs are available through fine equestrian stores throughout the world. The Libertyville Saddle Shop, Inc. has the privilege of being the exclusive U.S. importer of the Turf King line.

  • Stud Types:
Our studs are classified by 3 general groups: Road, Grass and Mud Studs.

    - Road Studs are shorter and flatter. They can be used on paved roads, hard packed trails and the like.
    - Grass Studs are much taller and preferred by riders for grass turf, sand arenas and some hard packed trails.
    - Mud Studs are used on extremely soft or wet riding surfaces where deep traction help is needed.

Generally, the softer the surface, the taller the stud that may be needed. Please note that you would not want to use a tall grass stud on a paved surface. If you are unsure of what type to use, please consult your farrier, trainer or riding instructor.

  • Do All Riders Use The Same Studs?
No. A rider's knowledge of the turf they will ride on and their own personal preference will determine what stud will work best for them. Many riders often use different types of studs on the front shoes and on the back shoes; again, this is from their personal tastes. Advice from your trainer or other horse professionals can help you in your choices.

  • How Long Do Studs Last?
Studs are not intended to last forever and they are not recommended to leave in place when not riding. Just as other equipment wears out, shoe studs will become worn due to varying conditions of a rider's use.

  • How Do You Put the Studs in the Shoe ?
Our Turf King studs are a screw in type and have a 3/8" thread. Most people have their farrier tap or create the stud holes in the shoes for them. The empty stud holes can be packed with an oiled cotton plug until ready to use. the studs simply screw in place. When done, remove the studs and repack holes with cotton plugs. Cotton plugs are inexpensive and prove to be better than metal or rubber stud blanks.
